Plant starches, cellulose, and wood pulp are examples of organic materials used to make biodegradable coffee packaging.
Biodegradable coffee bags break down into smaller particles into water, carbon dioxide (CO2), mineral salts, and biomass (renewable energy) when the correct circumstances are met.
Within a year, biodegradable coffee bags can decompose in a home composting setting. They can decompose in 3–6 months in an industrial composting plant.
You may add further layers of reinforcement to our biodegradable coffee pouches to better preserve and safeguard your coffee.
Are our Coffee biodegradable coffee bags certified?
Din Certco has validated Cyan Pak Coffee’s biodegradable coffee packaging as meeting the European certification standard (EN 13432).
The Seedling logo is on it.
The following materials are used to make our biodegradable coffee bags:
- Kraft paper
- Polylactic acid (PLA)
- Rice paper
One of the most popular bioplastics used in coffee packaging is polylactic acid (PLA), which is known for its flexibility and extended shelf life. Starches from potatoes, sugar cane, and corn sugar are used to make it.
The breakdown of our PLA coffee packaging in a regulated composting environment can occur in as little as ninety days.
The Kraft process, which turns wood into wood pulp chemically, is used to make Kraft paper. Following the separation of the wood’s lignin and cellulose fibers, the cellulose pulp is squeezed and made into Kraft paper.
Plant fibers, bark, and pith are cleaned and then soaked in water to make rice paper for packing. Before being trimmed to size, the pulp is rolled, compressed, and stretched between screens. This produces an off-white, textured sheet of paper that is non-fibrous.
The Forest Stewardship Council has certified our rice paper and Kraft paper biodegradable coffee packaging.
Cyan Pak Coffee’s paper-based packaging materials are guaranteed to have been sourced ethically and environmentally thanks to the FSC-certified paper “tick tree” mark.
